Project: HMS Rame Head
Location: Portsmouth
History: Canadian build World War II “Fort” class merchant cargo ship with 7 decks weighing 7775 tonne.
Heavy repair maintenance ship used during World War II to move supplies between North America and United Kingdom. Also used as a static training vessel by Special Boating Services.
Dimensions: Length 134.6m Width 17.5m
Brief: Vessel had acquired significant quantities of debris over the years and required a full environmental clean including
- Decontamination to make safe
- Scaffolding along deck and around hatches
- Collection of spent and live munitions
- Cleaning and re-storing of all ship’s spare parts
Project Commissioning included u Site Compound u Dry Room u Canteen
u Site Office u All personnel screened to meet security criteria prior to commencement of works at the naval base u To aid security all operatives transported via bus in and out of the compound.
Despite the tight programme, of only 28 days available on board the ship, Forest Environmental completed all works safely, to budget and ahead of schedule.
